Bikas Ranjan Mishra’s Huma Qureshi starrer ‘Bayaan’ was screened at the International Film Festival of Ottawa on March 20.
Having already bagged prominent awards, including recognition at the Busan International Film Festival and the Face of Asia award, the movie was hosted at the Ottawa Art Gallery.

Celebrating the screening, the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said on X, “Indian cinema continues to resonate with audiences worldwide through its powerful narratives, creative diversity, and vibrant cultural expression.”
It continued, “We take great pride in the outstanding contributions of our filmmakers on the global stage. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Ottawa Art Gallery on March 20 for the screening of ‘Bayaan.’”

As part of the screening, the first secretary of press, education and culture at the High Commission of India in Ottawa highlighted the depth and global appeal of Indian cinema and warmly invited the audience to explore India.
In the movie, Huma Qureshi stars as Roohi, a rookie female detective in ‘Bayaan,’ a gripping 2025 Hindi police procedural drama directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra.
The film follows her investigation into anonymous sexual abuse allegations against a powerful cult leader, exposing institutional patriarchy, silenced victims, and the struggle for justice in a small Indian town.
The cult leader is portrayed by Manoj Bajpayee. Supporting roles include Rajeev Siddhartha as the influential local politician and Tillotama Shome as a senior police officer.
‘Bayaan’ previously received a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.
