The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art will host a special ‘Asia After Dark’ event to celebrate Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, on Oct 24.
The celebration, held in the museum’s Freer Plaza from 4 to 9:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.
Activities will include dance performances, hands-on crafts, curator-led tours, food options, and a DJ dance party to close the evening. A full program schedule is available online.

Last year’s Diwali celebration at the museum drew more than 5,000 attendees. Organizers expect another strong turnout this year. The museum also offers virtual tours, webinars, and educational resources related to Diwali and its traditions.
Founded in 1923 as America’s first national Asian art museum, the National Museum of Asian Art houses one of the world’s most significant collections of Asian art, spanning antiquity to the modern era. Located on the National Mall, the museum is open daily except Dec 25, with free admission.
