'Diwali: Lights of India' will return to Seattle Center on Oct. 18, with an afternoon of music, dance, art, and cultural activities that celebrate India’s festival of lights.

The free, family-oriented event will run from noon to 6 p.m. at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall as part of the city’s annual Festál cultural series.

The festival will feature a wide range of live performances, including an Indian classical choir by Swaranjali School of Music, Odissi dance by Urvasi Dance Ensemble, and Kathak dance by Anga Kala Kathak Academy.

The day will conclude with a youth violin ensemble from the Temple of Music, directed by Grammy Award–winning violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan.

Organized by Northwest Share, the festival goes beyond stage performances, offering interactive workshops and cultural activities throughout the Armory.

Visitors can take part in rangoli flower mandala making, henna and face painting, flower garland making, and spice and aromatherapy crafts. Additional activities include clay Ganesha modeling, lamp and rock painting, cookie and cupcake decorating, pot walking, astrology readings, and roti-making demonstrations.

Upstairs, visual art exhibits and workshops will feature Madhubani art by Deepti Designs, textile block printing with Devika Mehrotra, puppet shows by Ramya Shankar, and a gallery and workshop led by Expression Arts.

Festival producer Latha Sambamurti said the event’s purpose is to connect cultures through shared traditions. “As a community, we celebrate Diwali at Seattle Center to share the richness of Indian culture with all of Seattle,” she said. “We are proud to bring music, dance, art, food, and storytelling together in one joyful afternoon of light and hope.”

'Diwali: Lights of India' is one of 25 cultural festivals in Seattle Center’s Festál series, hosted year-round in partnership with community organizations.
