Opening the event, Consul General D. C. Manjunath highlighted the growing opportunities for US businesses to partner with India's expanding export ecosystem. He underscored the shared ambition of Mission 500 and said engagements such as the fireside chat are part of a sustained effort toward achieving that vision.
Kharwal outlined how ITPO is strengthening India's global trade promotion architecture and highlighted opportunities for Houston-based companies to source products, import goods, and collaborate with Indian enterprises across manufacturing, food products, engineering goods, consumer products, and emerging technologies.
Participants were encouraged to use the India-USA Trade Portal to identify Indian suppliers, explore sector-specific opportunities, and build partnerships across India's expanding trade landscape. The portal connects American buyers with Indian exporters and supports broader efforts to facilitate bilateral trade.
Kharwal also briefed attendees on collaboration opportunities with agencies under India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, including ITPO and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), which support trade facilitation and export promotion.
The event comes as India and the United States are working toward the "Mission 500" goal of increasing bilateral trade to $500 billion, a target announced by the two countries' leadership as part of efforts to deepen economic cooperation and strengthen supply chains.
The initiative has also been supported by the launch of the India-USA Trade Portal, designed to connect businesses and facilitate cross-border trade.
Earlier this year, India and the United States announced the terms of reference for a bilateral trade agreement as they continue negotiations to expand market access and strengthen economic ties, reinforcing the broader push to deepen commercial engagement.
