  • Exclusive Interview: World Bank Chief Economist Indermit Gill

Exclusive Interview: World Bank Chief Economist Indermit Gill

February 2024 758 views 4:38

In this exclusive interview with New India Abroad, World Bank Chief Economist Indermit Gill discusses India's future prospects of economic growth.

In his interview given on the sidelines of the India Conference at Harvard University, Gill sad that the rest of the world really cares a lot about the size of the Indian economy. For Indians, of course, what really matters much more is the quality of living, standards of living. That actually depends a lot on the per capita income of a country, he said.

"I think that that was a distinction I was trying to make. The GDP matters a lot to outsiders. GDP per capita matters a lot to Indians. The tend to say India rising, it's a very good way to put it because India's per capita income is around $2000 to $2,500. We don't want it to stop there. We want it to become $25,000 even more," Gill said.
