OpenAI, Anthropic eye investor funds to settle AI lawsuits, FT reports

October 2025 184 views 2:35

OpenAI and Anthropic are reportedly considering using investor funds to cover potential multibillion-dollar copyright settlements, according to the Financial Times. Both AI companies face a series of lawsuits alleging unauthorized use of copyrighted material to train their models. OpenAI has secured insurance coverage of up to $300 million for emerging AI risks but may also turn to “self-insurance” amid rising legal threats. Meanwhile, Anthropic is said to be using its own funds to help cover settlement costs following a landmark $1.5 billion class action ruling.
