Passengers hail return of China-India flights after five-year lull
October 2025 5 views 3:20After a five-year suspension, direct air travel between India and mainland China has officially resumed, marking a significant step toward rebuilding post-pandemic connectivity. The first flight, operated by IndiGo, departed from Kolkata and landed in Guangzhou just before 4 a.m. local time.
The nonstop route — halted in 2020 due to the pandemic and subsequent geopolitical tensions — has been welcomed by passengers, who described the journey as “smooth and easy.” The restoration of flights is expected to boost business, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges between the two Asian economies.
