The World Food Movement (WFM), a non-profit initiative promoting access to wholesome meals, is set to launch its student and community feeding program in the United States.
The launch scheduled for Sept. 28, 2025, will take place at the Victoria Theatre, NJPAC, Newark, New Jersey.
Dignitaries including Consul General of India in New York, Binaya Srikanta Pradhan; Newark Deputy Mayor Ligia De Freitas; and Medgar Evers College president Patricia Ramsey. Chanchalapathi Dasa, vice chairman of WFM, will attend the event.
The program, inspired by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, is designed to bring communities together by ensuring access to fresh, nutritious meals for students and neighborhoods across the country.
“We are happy to launch the World Food Movement in the U.S. to serve the students and other communities of this wonderful country,” said Chanchalapathi Dasa. “We believe it is essential for citizens to be well-nourished to thrive and engage effectively in nation-building. We are committed to promoting well-being, restoring dignity, and making a difference in people's lives.”
The movement has already begun initiatives in New Jersey, New York, and California, with plans for nationwide outreach. According to organizers, WFM intends to collaborate with government agencies, philanthropists, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members to expand access to nutritious meals.

Amb. Pradhan, in a video statement, congratulated the organization on the launch. “I am glad that this nonprofit will serve freshly cooked meals to those in need, addressing such a crucial challenge.”
“Inspired by Srila Prabhupada’s vision of a hunger-free world, who was a spiritual and cultural ambassador of India carrying the message of peace, goodwill, and oneness across the globe, this initiative takes that vision forward. I congratulate Madhu Pandit Dasa and Chanchalapathi Dasa, founders of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, for establishing the World Food Movement. Their leadership and selfless service have touched millions of lives in India, and I am confident it will do the same in the United States,” he said in the video.
Other important figures like Indian politician Shashi Tharoor and Indian economist Sanjeev Sanyal also shared videos congratulating the founders.
“Irrespective of how prosperous countries in the West are, there are always people who are in need of food. I am pleased that the movement is now going global and that WFM is now going to spread in the US. Their efforts at closing in on close to 5 billion meals worldwide are amazing,” Sanyal said.
The launch will also feature a cultural performance by internationally acclaimed singer and composer Abby V, known for blending classical and contemporary music.
Guided by The Akshaya Patra Foundation, which has extensive experience in large-scale meal programs globally, WFM aims to replicate proven models in the U.S. The foundation has served millions of meals internationally, and its work has been recognized by global leaders, including Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
