In the wake of India’s May 6 retaliatory strike on Pakistan, dubbed #OperationSindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah led the government’s response, calling the operation “Bharat’s response to the brutal killing of our innocent brothers in Pahalgam.”
“Proud of our armed forces,” Shah declared in a statement. “The Modi government is resolved to give a befitting response to any attack on India and its people. Bharat remains firmly committed to eradicating terrorism from its roots.”
The cross-border strike came two weeks after the Apr.22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that left several Indian security personnel dead.
The principal opposition party, the Indian National Congress (INC), extended its unequivocal support to the Modi government. In a formal statement, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said, “India's commitment to eliminating all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and PoK has necessarily to be uncompromising and always be anchored in the supreme national interest. This is a time for unity and solidarity.”
Ramesh emphasized that the INC had offered its support “right from the night of April 22nd,” and reiterated that “the INC is standing firmly with our armed forces.”
The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, posted on X: "Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!"
The Shiv Sena, an alliance partner of the BJP in Maharashtra, also voiced strong support. Party spokesperson Krishna Hegde said, “Our entire country stands with the PM and Armed Forces who have given a terrorist state like Pakistan a befitting reply.”
Several ministers and political leaders took to X to express their reactions.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh posted a succinct message: “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.”
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju wrote: “No safe haven for terror, not on our watch under PM @narendramodi Ji. #OperationSindoor #JaiHind”
Piyush Goyal echoed the sentiment with a post that simply read: “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also weighed in on social media, praising the armed forces and the leadership in New Delhi. “With pride, I salute the brave warriors of the Indian Armed Forces for swiftly avenging the Pahalgam terror attack. With their unmatched bravery and precision, they have again demonstrated that our nation will defend itself with iron will,” he wrote.
Naidu added, “Today, under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji, the world has witnessed our strength and determination. Our country stands united against terror and firmly in support of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”
