Southern California Gujarati Society marks annual garba in Buena Park

The event featured live music, aarti and traditional cuisine, recreating the festive spirit of Gujarat in California.

The Southern California Gujarati Cultural Society (SCGCS) held its annual Raas Garba celebration on Sept. 27 at the Jain Center in Buena Park, California. 

The event, now in its fourth decade, drew several hundred participants dressed in colorful attire from across the region. 

It featured live music by the ‘Sur Sarita Musical Group,’ who performed traditional and devotional songs. The evening also included a group aarti, followed by distribution of fafda-jalebi, a dish traditionally associated with the festival.

Trustees Bhupesh Patel, Falgun Patel, Ashwin Patel, and Mayur Patel, supported by volunteers, coordinated the event. 

In his remarks, trustee Falgun Patel thanked donors, performers, and community members for their contributions and participation, while also underscoring SCGCS’s year-round efforts to foster cultural connections among Gujarati families in Southern California.

Organizers reported strong turnout and positive feedback, with many attendees noting the event’s ability to recreate the atmosphere of Gujarat abroad.
