Sikhs of America, a Sikh organization based in the United States, has denounced the actions of Harjinder Singh, an undocumented truck driver whose illegal U-turn on a Florida highway caused a crash that killed three people.

In a statement, chairman Jasdip Singh Jassee expressed condolences to the families of the victims. “Their loss is immeasurable, and we share in their grief during this painful time,” he said.

The organization emphasized that the misconduct of one individual should not reflect on the wider Sikh community. “For over a century, Sikhs have lived in this great nation, upholding its values, following its laws, and contributing positively to its rich cultural fabric,” the statement read.

Sikhs of America also underscored its opposition to illegal immigration and pledged support for law enforcement. “Sikhs of America stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the U.S. Government and law enforcement agencies in their efforts to combat illegal immigration, crime, and lawlessness,” Jassee said.

The group urged Americans not to judge the Sikh community by the actions of a few. “The Sikh community remains committed to being responsible citizens, strengthening our shared values, and contributing to the safety, progress, and prosperity of this great nation,” the statement added.

The crash occurred when Singh attempted an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, causing his trailer to jackknife and collide with a minivan. Authorities identified Singh as an Indian citizen who had received a commercial driver’s license from the California Department of Motor Vehicles despite his alleged undocumented status.

The Department of Homeland Security also condemned the incident. In a statement, it said it would “continue to protect the public” and criticized California officials for issuing Singh a license. “Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California DMV issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License—this state of governance is asinine,” the department wrote on X.
