Sikh Youth camp in Maryland: A balance of learning and fun
The seminars, discussions, sports, and various competitions would focus on inculcating Sikh values while developing a better understanding of Sikh history within the young minds.

Glimpses of the Sikh Youth Gurmat Camp held in 2024 / GHISS website
Guru Harkrishan Institute of Sikh Studies (GHISS) is organizing a Sikh Youth Gurmat Camp in Maryland.
The camp started on July 19 and will go on till July 27 with children and young adults between the age-group of 6-20, attending the camp.
A key focus of the camp would be to help the participating youth align with their cultural and religious roots.The seminars, discussions, sports, and various competitions would focus on inculcating Sikh values while developing a better understanding of Sikh history within the young minds.

The camp will feature lectures, seminars and group discussions on various Sikh issues, Sikh history Jeopardy, Punjabi Pictionary competition, workshops, cultural training in Harmonium, Tabla, String Instruments, and Gatka.
The participants will also be competing against each other in the 9-day camp. Quiz competitions, speech competitions, pagri tying competitions would be organized along with sports competitions including volleyball, basketball, hiking and tug-of-war.
The event is brining together a diverse group of Sikh professionals featuring notable figures such as Vishavjit Singh, known as Sikh Captain America, and Jasjit Singh, CEO of EDGE Partners and a former Obama and Biden appointee. Other panelists included Joti Kaur, a News 12 New Jersey reporter, Dr. Kiranpreet Kaur, Chief of Gastroenterology in Hagerstown, Harjot Singh, Federal Advocacy Manager at the Sikh Coalition, real estate professional Harjot Singh and educator Supreet Singh, fostering a blend of cultural pride and professional insight.

GHISS describes the mission of the camp as, "The Sikh Youth Gurmat Camp is an endeavor to expose these new Sikh generations of the western world to the principles and values of Sikhism. It is an attempt to create a Sikh environment and provide a glimpse of the Sikh way of life."
It adds, "This camp is ideal for those who have chosen Sikhism to be their path of life and are now desirous to learn more about this path and to understand the Guru's teachings and principles through practice."
