A bomb threat in St. Charles—in my district—targeted Texas lawmakers for defending free and fair elections. I’m grateful no one was harmed and thankful to law enforcement and Gov. Pritzker for their swift response.

I stand with the Texas lawmakers who are bravely defending free and fair elections in the face of intimidation. In a democracy, we resolve our differences with votes—not violence,” he added.
The incident occurred on the morning of Aug. 6 amid a tense standoff between Texas Republicans and Democrats, many of ehom have left the state to prevent a quorum during a special legislative session focused on redrawing the state’s congressional map.
The proposed map, unveiled by Republicans, would expand GOP control from 25 to 30 of Texas’s 38 congressional seats and reduce the voting strength of Hispanic communities. Texas Democrats have traveled to cities including Chicago, Boston, and Albany in an attempt to block the map’s passage.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has filed an emergency petition asking the state supreme court to remove House Democratic leader Gene Wu and declare his seat vacant.
