Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) was named the 2024 Governmental Leader of the Year at the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference (DMMC) Annual Dinner and Recognition Ceremony held this week in Schaumburg.

The DMMC is a coalition representing over one million residents across DuPage County. It promotes sound public policy, intergovernmental cooperation, and effective local governance.

The award, presented by outgoing DMMC president and Elmhurst Mayor Scott Levin, recognized Krishnamoorthi’s advocacy on behalf of local communities affected by the Canadian Pacific–Kansas City Southern Railway merger. The nomination was submitted by Itasca Mayor Jeff Pruyn and Hanover Park Mayor Rodney Craig.

According to DMMC, the Congressman worked closely with DuPage County mayors and first responders to elevate public safety concerns related to the merger, including the potential for increased freight traffic to block emergency routes and delay response times.

“I’m deeply honored to receive this award from the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference,” Krishnamoorthi said. “This recognition is a testament to what we can achieve when local and federal leaders work hand-in-hand to put public safety first. Whether it’s protecting emergency response routes or strengthening infrastructure, I’ll continue standing with our mayors, first responders, and residents to ensure our communities are heard and protected.”
