Rahul Sharma bags 2025 Roger Schenke Award
He was honored for his work in virtual care and for developing educational programs that have shaped the next generation of physician leaders.

The American Association for Physician Leadership (AAPL) has awarded Rahul Sharma the 2025 Roger Schenke Award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to physician leadership education, telemedicine, and healthcare innovation.
Sharma currently serves as the Barbara and Stephen Friedman professor and chair of emergency medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, and emergency physician-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

He founded the Center for Virtual Care at Weill Cornell, a nationally recognized model for telemedicine training. He also developed “Doctoring in the Digital Age,” a curriculum that equips medical trainees with the skills needed to deliver high-quality virtual care.
“What distinguishes Sharma as a leader is his relentless commitment to improving healthcare, using the most innovative methods available to reach patients and to train clinicians to advance physician leadership, especially in academic medicine,” said Robert A. Harrington, dean of Weill Cornell Medicine.
A nationally recognized innovator, Sharma has been named a Top 25 Innovator by Modern Healthcare and a Notable in Healthcare by Crain’s New York Business. He has also received national teaching awards from the Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
The Roger Schenke Award, named after AAPL’s founder, is presented annually to individuals who demonstrate excellence in advancing leadership and management education in healthcare. With over 10,000 physician members globally, AAPL is a leading organization focused on empowering physicians through leadership development.
