Amit Mehta / Wikipedia
Indian American judge Amit P. Mehta is back in the spotlight after delivering a major legal setback to President Donald Trump, ruling that he is not shielded by presidential immunity from key civil claims tied to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
Mehta, a federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, on April 1 ruled that evidence presented so far suggests Trump’s speech at the Ellipse on Jan. 6 was political in nature rather than an official presidential act, allowing long-running civil lawsuits against him to move forward.
