Stony Brook University Professor Ramana Davuluri has been elevated to the rank of State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Faculty by the SUNY Board of Trustees for 2025.
A professor of Biomedical Informatics, Davuluri is a world leader in the computational analysis of non-coding genomic regions and is known for his pioneering efforts to use machine learning in biomedical applications.
Davuluri shares the honor with seven of his colleagues, who were elevated to the rank of Distinguished Faculty.

Stony Brook President Andrea Goldsmith celebrated the achievement of the Professors and said in a statement, "What a proud and defining moment it is for Stony Brook as we recognize our distinguished faculty for their outstanding work that continues to elevate this exceptional university to new heights."
Talking about the winners, she added, "These awardees, along with those who came before them, have made a transformative impact on our mission to achieve excellence in education, research, healthcare and service.”
Davuluri was recognized for achieving national and international prominence in his field. His contributions to research and scholarship were also recognized through this award.
Davuluri obtained his bachelor's degree in Mathematics from S.R.R. and C.V.R Government College, Vijayawada and Master's and PhD in statistics from the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute.
He joined Stony Brook University in 2020 and has also taught at Northwestern University, University of Pennsylvania and the Ohio State University, before moving to Stony Brook.
Expressing joy over his appointment, Davuluri said on LinkedIn, "I’m happy to share that I got promoted to a new position as SUNY Distinguished Professor at Stony Brook University! Very excited to join the SUNY Distinguished Academy."
