Punjabi singer Teji Kahlon was shot in Canada on Oct. 22 in what authorities believe is part of an escalating wave of gang violence tied to Indian criminal networks operating overseas.

Members of gangster Rohit Godara’s group have claimed responsibility for the attack on singer Kahlon, posting threats and warnings on social media.

In a Facebook post, individuals identified as Mahender Saran Dilana, Rahul Rinau, and Vicky Phalwan—believed to be members of the Godara gang—claimed that Kahlon was shot for allegedly aiding rival groups through money, arms supplies, and information sharing.

“We carried out the shooting in Canada at Teji Kahlon. He was shot in the stomach. If he understands, fine. If not, next time we will finish him,” the post read.

The message further alleged that Kahlon had acted as an informant against the gang and provided logistical and financial support to their enemies. It also carried a broader threat directed at those allegedly backing rival outfits.

“Let me make it clear: if anyone, even by mistake, supports our enemies or helps them in any way, we will not spare their families... This is a warning to all brothers, businessmen, builders, hawala operators, and whoever else. This is just the beginning. Watch what happens next,” the post stated.

The incident comes just days after Godara reportedly took credit for an attack on Hari Boxer, a close associate of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in the United States. In that California shooting, one of Boxer’s aides was killed and another was critically injured.

Both Godara and Goldy Brar, who are wanted by the National Investigation Agency and multiple state police forces in India, have been linked to a string of targeted attacks in North America.

Brar is suspected to be operating from the US, while Godara is believed to be in the UK. Bishnoi remains incarcerated in Gujarat.
