Indian-origin Kapur & Mukherjee make Interlochen Book Award shortlist

The Indian-origin authors join four finalists for the $25,000 award recognizing literature in the creative arts.

The Interlochen Center for the Arts has announced Indian-origin authors Parul Kapur and Dipika Mukherjee among the finalists for the 2025 Pattis Family Foundation Creative Arts Book Award, a $25,000 prize honoring outstanding literature in the creative arts. The winner will be announced in December 2025.

Kapur, born in Assam and based in Atlanta, is shortlisted for her debut novel 'Inside the Mirror', published by the University of Nebraska Press in 2024. Set in 1950s Bombay, the novel follows Jaya Malhotra, a young medical student and painter navigating family expectations, gender restrictions, and the emerging modern art movement in postcolonial India. The book has already received multiple accolades, including the AWP Prize for the Novel and the 2025 Georgia Author of the Year Award.
