Gujarat and Maharashtra Day celebrations were held in New York, where officials and community leaders marked the occasion and highlighted the contributions of the Indian diaspora to India-U.S. relations.
India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, said the Indian diaspora acts as a “living bridge” in strengthening ties between the two countries. He emphasized the community’s role in deepening engagement across sectors.
Former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu spoke about the significance of Gujarat and Maharashtra in India’s growth and development. He noted their contributions across economic and cultural domains.

During the event, the ambassador honored several individuals for their work in different fields. Those recognized included Suresh Prabhu; Hemant Marathe, mayor of West Windsor; Pulkit Desai, mayor of Parsippany-Troy Hills; Falu Shah, a Grammy Award-winning artist; Archana Joglekar, an actress; Pooja Jhaveri, an actress; and Hardik Chauhan, a Gujarati folk singer.
Organizers acknowledged the role of community groups in hosting the event. These included the Gujarati Associations of North America and the Federation of Indian Associations, along with other organizations that contributed to the program.
The event brought together members of the Indian American community to commemorate the formation of Gujarat and Maharashtra and to recognize their continued influence within India and abroad.
