Indian-origin restaurateur behind Raju Omlet dies in Dubai

Indian-origin restaurateur Rajiv Meherish, founder of the Dubai-based restaurant chain Raju Omlet, died on Sunday after building one of the UAE's best-known homegrown casual dining brands.
Staff at Raju Omlet outlets confirmed his death, according to Khaleej Times, adding that the restaurants continue to operate as usual. Family friends said Meherish had been unwell before his passing.
Meherish founded Raju Omlet in 2013 with the idea of turning simple egg-based dishes into a distinctive dining experience. The brand expanded over the years into a restaurant chain with at least seven outlets across Dubai, attracting residents and tourists.
Following news of his death, members of Dubai's business community paid tribute to Meherish, remembering him as a humble entrepreneur and a visionary who built a successful business around an unconventional concept.
A commerce postgraduate from Mumbai University, Meherish moved to Dubai in 1980 and began his career as a sales executive. He later worked in media sales, including at Khaleej Times, before leaving the industry in 1989 to start his own ventures in publishing and communications.
During his career, Meherish worked on projects associated with major organizations, including Dubai Duty Free, Dubai Shopping Festival and the Department of Civil Aviation. His work also extended to government and corporate entities such as Dubai Municipality, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Chamber and Emirates Airline.
More than three decades after moving to the UAE, Meherish entered the food and hospitality industry by launching Raju Omlet. The restaurant gained recognition for reimagining traditional egg dishes with new recipes and presentation, helping establish a niche in Dubai's competitive dining sector.
Raju Omlet has since grown into a recognizable homegrown restaurant brand with multiple outlets across Dubai. The restaurants remain open following Meherish's death, according to staff.
