Netflix is set to premiere Toaster, a dark comedy starring Rajkummar Rao and Sanya Malhotra, on April 15.
The film is directed by Vivek Das Chaudhary and produced under Kampa Film, the banner launched by Rao and his actor-producer wife Patralekhaa.

The story centers on a wedding gift – a toaster – that becomes the trigger for a spiraling chain of events after a wedding is called off and one man becomes fixated on getting it back.
Toaster marks the first film produced under Kampa Film and also serves as Patralekhaa’s debut as a producer. The project further marks Chaudhary’s directorial debut.
The film features an ensemble cast including Archana Puran Singh, Abhishek Banerjee, Farah Khan, Upendra Limaye, Vinod Rawat, Jitendra Joshi and Seema Pahwa.
In a statement, Patralekhaa described stepping into production with Kampa Film as “an incredibly meaningful milestone,” adding that beginning the journey with Netflix made it “even more special.”
“Toaster immediately stood out because it finds humour in the most unexpected places, and the moment we read it, we knew it was a story we wanted to bring to life,” she said. “Being our very first film makes the experience even more personal for us.”
Ruchikaa Kapoor Sheikh, director of original films at Netflix India, described the film as “a quirky dark comedy” built around “a simple miser whose life spirals into complete mayhem in pursuit of getting back his toaster.”
She said the project reflects Netflix’s focus on supporting emerging talent behind the camera, pointing to Chaudhary’s debut and Kampa Film’s first production.
“With Vivek Das Chaudhary making his directorial debut and Patralekhaa & Raj stepping into the producer’s role for the first time with Kampa Film, the project reflects our continued focus on championing emerging talent behind the camera,” Kapoor Sheikh said.
Netflix has positioned the film as a Hindi-language comedy with thriller elements, indicating a blend of dark humor and escalating chaos rather than conventional slapstick.
The film is written by Parveez Shaikh, who is credited with the story and screenplay, alongside Akshat Ghildial and Anagh Mukerjee on screenplay. Dialogues are by Ghildial, and Tarun Bali serves as executive producer.
