The 10th annual Vibrant Brampton SummerFest will take place on July 18 and 19 at Gage Park in downtown Brampton, featuring performances by over 150 Canadian and international artists. The free outdoor festival is organized by the Arts and Culture Initiative of South Asia (ACISA), a non-profit cultural group.
The opening night on July 18 will be headlined by Punjabi singer Miss Pooja, known as the “Queen of Bhangra.” With over 4,500 songs and 350 albums to her name, she is expected to perform hits such as Siti Mar Ke, Nakhreya Mari, Aashiq, Sohnea, and Second Hand Jawani.
Joining her on stage will be Zora Randhawa, whose songs Woofer, Inch, and Wonderland have gained wide popularity, along with Punjabi duo Preet Brar and Kamal Brar. More than 50 local artists from the Greater Toronto Area will also perform on the first day.
The July 19 lineup includes Bollywood playback singer Ananya Chakraborty, a finalist on ZEE Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Amanat Ali, known for his song in the film Dostana and appearances on Coke Studio Pakistan, will represent Pakistani music. Bengali singer Sanchita Bhattacharya, winner of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L’il Champs, will also perform.
The festival will also feature a Garba segment led by Pramesh Nandi, referred to by organizers as the “Garba King of Canada.”
According to curators Ricky Bajaj, Sandeep Prabhakar, and Arpan Banerjee, “Over 150 Canadian and international artists are being featured in the 10th edition of the festival.”
Family activities at the venue include a Kidz Zone with face painting and art projects, as well as dance workshops in Bollywood, Bhangra, and Salsa. Food stalls will offer a variety of local dishes, and a MegaMart will display clothing, jewelry, and handicrafts. Both admission and parking are free.
The festival is presented by TD Bank in association with WOW Mobile Boutique. Additional sponsors include Scotties Face Tissues, Lazeez Shawarma, and CAD Immigration. Funding is supported by the City of Brampton, Canadian Heritage, Ontario Arts Council, and Celebrate Ontario.
ACISA also hosts two other annual cultural events: the Visual Arts of South Asia (VASA) festival and ROOT'D Fest.
