Indian-origin community leader and diversity champion Molina Asthana was elected as one of three new members on the Vicsport board at the 2025 Vicsport Annual General Meeting on Nov. 25. Vicsport, a non-governmental organisation, boasts itself as 'the peak body for sport and active recreation' in Victoria, Australia.
Asthana brings extensive experience to her new role at Vicsport, with her being a part of multiple boards and having founded Multicultural Women in Sport.
Asthana has served as Chair of Gymnastics Victoria and Chair of the AFL South East Regional Advisory Council. She currently holds the position of Chair of Handball Victoria and Deputy Chair of Table Tennis Victoria.
As the founder of Multicultural Women in Sport, Asthana has contributed to the increased participation and empowerment of women from diverse backgrounds. She also holds ambassadorial roles covering Cricket Australia, AFL, Commonwealth Games, and the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup.
Asthana is a member of the Australian Sports Commission Play Well Leadership Group and, formerly, of the ASC Sport Volunteer Coalition.
With regard to her legal background, Asthana runs her own commercial law practice and holds senior roles at the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office and leading firms Clayton Utz and Minter Ellison.
She is involved in other non-sport boards, including Good Shepherd Australia New Zealand, Moyne Heath, and the Graduate House of the University of Melbourne.
At the AGM, held in person and online, affiliate members also voted to elect two other new members to the Vicsport board, Matthew Duck and Melinda Jacobsen, while Ruth Holdaway MBE and Adam Crameri were re-elected.
