Gita Gopinath with Sadhvi Sail / X
The newly crowned Femina Miss India World 2026, Sadhvi Sail met the Indian-American economist Gita Gopinath for an informal conversation following her win, marking a personal milestone tied to her early interest in finance. Sail called Gopinath her inspiration.
Gopinath acknowledged the meeting in a post on X, writing, “Congratulations Sadhvi Sail on winning Femina Miss India World 2026 and very best wishes for Miss World. This was quite the surprise that I get a mention in your life's journey and get to meet you.”
Gita Gopinath is currently the Gregory and Ania Coffey professor of economics at Harvard University. She previously served as the first deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund from Jan. 21, 2022, to Aug. 31, 2025. In 2019, she became the IMF’s first woman chief economist.
Sail, who won the Femina Miss India World 2026 title on April 18 at KIIT Bhubaneswar, described the interaction as a meaningful exchange of ideas and experiences. The meeting followed years of admiration shaped by her early exposure to finance through her father.
During an earlier appearance on the “Before the Crown” podcast, Sail spoke about how her father introduced her to the subject at a young age. His admiration for Gopinath and discussions about her work influenced Sail’s interest in the field. Meeting her, Sail indicated, connected those early influences with her current journey.
