Separately, Prince George’s Community College also announced Miller as its 2026 commencement speaker, calling her appearance “a milestone moment” for the institution’s 67th commencement ceremony.
The Maryland School for the Deaf said Miller will address its Class of 2026 during commencement exercises scheduled for May 29 at the Benson Gym. The school noted that Miller is the second woman to serve as Maryland lieutenant governor and the first woman of color and immigrant elected to statewide office in Maryland.
The school said Miller’s public service work has focused on transportation, mental health, overdose response and STEM equity “alongside a commitment to lead a state where we leave no one behind.”
The Indian-origin leader, who immigrated to the United States from India with her family at the age of seven, has built a career in public service spanning engineering, transportation policy and state government.
Miller earned a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and spent 25 years with Montgomery County’s Department of Transportation, where she worked on transportation access and public safety projects, including programs aimed at improving pedestrian, bicyclist and transit safety.
She later represented District 15 in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2010 to 2018, serving on the Ways and Means Committee and later the Appropriations Committee. Her legislative work focused on STEM education, small business regulations, environmental issues, working families and survivors of domestic abuse.
As lieutenant governor, Miller has focused on transportation, mental health and STEM-related initiatives. She also chairs Maryland’s Council on Interfaith Outreach and the Governor’s Work Zone Safety Work Group.
