The recipients, including individuals and local organizations, receive their respective awards from their local councils at Australia Day ceremonies and are then shortlisted for the state awards program. The nominations are divided into four main categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Active Citizenship Award, and Community Event.

Chaudhuri, a City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters student, was awarded for demonstrating distinctive leadership by advocating to enhance student engagement, health equity, and community outcomes through local and national medical student networks.

His work on rural Indigenous health care access helped contribute more than $5,000 worth of free tuition in mathematics, science, and English to students experiencing financial hardship.

Chaudhuri, who serves as the youth representative for the Indian Bengali Association of Adelaide, is the national secretary of the Australian Medical Students’ Association and contributes to Flinders Fights Cancer (FFC) and the Flinders University Rural Health Society (FURHS).

He also volunteers with St John Ambulance SA.
