“Her district is lucky to have a representative with her energy, discipline, and heart,” Solages said.
The democrat also pointed to Rajkumar’s work on labor and immigrant rights issues.
“Jenifer has delivered real victories, from securing human rights and dignity for domestic workers to bringing new immigrant communities to the table like never before,” Solages said. “She understands that government works best when every community has a voice, a seat, and a champion.”
Rajkumar, representing parts of Queens since 2021, is the first Indian American woman elected to the New York State Legislature. Her district includes Glendale, Ozone Park, Richmond Hill, Ridgewood, and Woodhaven.
The endorsement adds to a list of elected officials and labor organizations backing Rajkumar’s reelection campaign. Her campaign has previously highlighted support from Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Congressman Gregory Meeks, State Senators John Liu and Joe Addabbo, the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, 32BJ SEIU, and the New York State Troopers PBA.
During her tenure in Albany, Rajkumar has focused on legislation related to domestic workers’ protections, victims’ rights, immigrant representation, and enforcement efforts targeting illegal smoke shops in New York.
The June 23 Democratic primary is expected to determine representation for the heavily Democratic Assembly district in Queens.
