Rina Madhani, co-founder and executive director of Start Lighthouse, was on Apr.22 honored with the 2025 AmeriCorps Alum Impact Award by NYC Service. This recognition, part of the Mayoral Service Recognition Program, celebrates her continued commitment to serving New York City communities beyond her AmeriCorps VISTA service.

During her AmeriCorps VISTA term, Madhani identified significant gaps in literacy resources across New York City. In response, she founded Start Lighthouse, which now operates a Literacy Hub initiative serving over 2,100 students in underserved communities. The program provides diverse books, targeted interventions, and family engagement to boost academic performance and literacy.
