Artificial intelligence, technology cooperation and innovation took center stage at a discussion in London as India and the United Kingdom prepared for the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), according to posts on X by India in the UK, the official account of the High Commission of India in London.

The discussion, held under the "TechTuesdaysUK Xxtra" series at India House, brought together experts from government, industry and academia to examine the evolving artificial intelligence landscape and the role technology is expected to play in the next phase of the India-UK partnership.

According to the High Commission, the event focused on opportunities and challenges emerging as trade, innovation and digital cooperation become increasingly interconnected.

Deputy High Commissioner Kartik Pande said technology has become a defining pillar of India-UK relations and noted that bilateral cooperation is expanding across artificial intelligence, semiconductors, quantum technologies, digital trade and innovation. According to the High Commission, he highlighted initiatives including the Technology Security Initiative and the India-UK Joint Centre for AI as examples of growing collaboration between the two countries.

The panel featured Ravneet Shah, Lord Uday Nagaraju, Dr. Mike Short CBE, Dr. Andy Sellars and Gautam Hazari, representing sectors including banking, telecommunications, semiconductors, technology and digital innovation, according to the High Commission. Discussions explored how India and the United Kingdom could work together to develop trusted artificial intelligence while building what organizers described as an inclusive and human-centric AI ecosystem.

The event took place as the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) formally entered into force on July 15, 2026, alongside the Agreement on Social Security, also known as the Double Contribution Convention (DCC), according to India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The ministry said the trade agreement concluded negotiations on May 6, 2025, after 14 rounds of talks. It was signed in London on July 24, 2025, by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and then-UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The separately negotiated DCC, signed on February 10, 2026, exempts Indian professionals and their employers from making dual social security contributions during temporary assignments in the United Kingdom. The agreement extends the exemption period from three years to five years, according to the ministry.

Implementation of both agreements had initially been expected earlier in 2026 but was delayed following discussions over UK steel-import duties. Both governments later confirmed July 15 as the implementation date during engagements held on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, the ministry said.
