The release marks the first public unveiling of Navare's original watercolor series portraying all 47 U.S. presidents. The collection includes museum-quality matted prints, greeting cards, brass bookmarks and framed magnets. Additional presidential designs are expected to be introduced as the series expands.
The artwork also serves as the first public preview of Navare's forthcoming coffee table book, HAIL TO THE CHIEFS! Celebrating America at 250: Presidential Caricatures in Watercolor. The book features a foreword by Stewart D. McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, and pairs each presidential caricature with a historically significant quotation, presenting more than two centuries of American presidential history through watercolor illustrations.
"Every presidency has contributed a chapter to the American story," said Navare, who is a New York-based America250 commemorative artist, part of the national nonpartisan initiative established by Congress to engage Americans in celebrating the nation's semiquincentennial.
"My goal was to portray each president with equal artistic respect and historical dignity, inviting people to reflect on shared history as the nation marks its 250th anniversary."
Navare is a former editorial cartoonist for the Hindustan Times and has published two collections of political cartoons through HarperCollins. His original artworks are part of the permanent collection of the Library of Congress, and he previously served as a fellow at Harvard University's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs.
Founded in 1961 by former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, the White House Historical Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and sharing the history of the White House. Proceeds from sales of the collection will support the association's educational and preservation mission.
