U.S. holdings in India hit $383 bn as global portfolio tops $15.8 tn

US holdings of Indian securities rose to USD383 billion at the end of 2024, according to the Treasury Department’s annual survey of American portfolio investments abroad, placing India among the major emerging-market destinations for US investors.

India’s total includes $373 billion in equity and $10 billion in long-term debt, with no short-term debt holdings reported. The equity component is dominated by common stock valued at $367 billion, along with $3 billion in fund shares and $3 billion in preferred and other equity, according to detailed country tables in the full report.
