Sanat Chattopadhyay joins Indo-American Arts Council as vice chair

Chattopadhyay brings decades of global leadership experience in business and philanthropy.

The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) appointed Sanat Chattopadhyay as vice chairman of its board earlier this year. 

Chattopadhyay, a business leader, philanthropist and longtime supporter of Indian and Indian-American institutions, brings decades of global leadership and operational experience to the arts organization.

Announcing the appointment, Nirmal Mattoo, chairman of IAAC, said, “Sanat is a remarkable leader with global stature, operational depth, and an abiding commitment to giving back. We are truly excited to welcome him as vice chairman of the board. His judgment, generosity, and passion for mobilizing institutions will be of enormous value to IAAC.”

IAAC said the appointment comes as the organization continues its efforts to promote artistic excellence and strengthen cultural connections across communities. The council said Chattopadhyay’s leadership would support its ongoing growth and future initiatives.



Chattopadhyay serves as executive vice president and president of the Manufacturing Division at Merck and Co. and is a member of the company's executive committee. He oversees the company's worldwide manufacturing and supply operations spanning pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biologics and animal health products.

As head of Merck's global manufacturing operations, Chattopadhyay leads a network of manufacturing, commercialization and distribution facilities across more than 22 countries. He has been credited with helping expand the company's vaccines and biologics manufacturing capabilities and played a key role in the commercialization of the cancer therapy KEYTRUDA.

Before joining Merck in 2009, Chattopadhyay held senior leadership positions at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals and Aventis, overseeing global supply chain, manufacturing and product development operations. He began his career with Hoechst Pharmaceuticals and has worked across North America, Europe and Asia during a career spanning more than three decades.

Outside Merck, Chattopadhyay serves as chair of the board of directors of Hilleman Laboratories, a joint venture between Merck and the Wellcome Trust focused on advancing global health.

A graduate of Jadavpur University, Chattopadhyay holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in industrial engineering and management science from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai.
