Congressman Ro Khanna warned progressive Democrats that the oligarchs are coming for them and urged his peers to stand up to them, highlighting the dominant electoral performance displayed by progressives in recent New York, New Jersey, Michigan and Maine elections.
Brad Lander, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier's victories in New York primaries, all backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, indicate a new wave of Democratic politics.
Khanna said on X, "I want to speak to fellow progressives today. Yesterday was the beginning of a new, bold, strong Democratic Party. Democrats are winning, not just in New York, we're winning across this country, in New Jersey, in Michigan, in Maine."

Khanna claimed that these victories by the progressive faction within the Democrats are a sign that the "new deal of our time" is resonating with the people. He noted that the "new deal" platform hinges on ideas like "no to foreign wars, no to genocide... yes to childcare for all, yes to unions for all, and yes to a tax (0:37) on billionaires and trillionaires."
Khanna attributed the wins to the rejection of the "billionaire class" and the "Epstein class" and standing up for the "working class," noting that it resulted in the American people responding in "huge numbers."
Khanna's message also came with a warning. He said, "We shouldn't be naive. The oligarchs are gonna come after us."
Highlighting his recent tiff with Elon Musk, Khanna said, "Yesterday, Elon Musk spent the morning saying that I should be put in jail or he was gonna sue me. Why? Because I stood up to him."
Musk and Khanna recently had a war of words on X after Khanna quoted reports claiming that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), under Musk, made federal funding cuts that would potentially cost the lives of millions of children across the globe. Musk went on to threaten Khanna with a lawsuit in response to his comments, and Khanna proposed a public debate.
Noting that the progressive Democrats would not back down, Khanna added, "We have a simple message for these oligarchs. Channeling FDR, we should say to them, bring it on."
Khanna has been vocal in his support for progressive voices within the Democratic Party. After Mamdani won his mayoral campaign in 2025, Khanna declared the results as evidence that a "bold progressive can win on an affordability agenda and an agenda for human rights in Gaza."
He added, "This is a historic victory for the progressive movement."
