Several House Republicans have joined Democrats in urging President Donald Trump to withdraw or revise his $100,000 fee on H-1B visa applications, warning it could harm startups and weaken the country’s technological edge.
In a bipartisan letter sent Oct. 21 to Trump and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, six lawmakers said the new fee would create “significant challenges for U.S. employers and overall weaken our competitiveness.” The signatories include Republican Representatives Jay Obernolte of California, María Elvira Salazar of Florida, and Don Bacon of Nebraska, along with Democrats Sam Liccardo of California, Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia, and Greg Stanton of Arizona.
