Republican leader and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy and his wife, Apoorva Ramaswamy, welcomed the birth of their daughter on February 4. The couple announced the news on social media, sharing a family photograph from the hospital.

In his message, Ramaswamy stated that both mother and child were doing well and expressed gratitude for the prayers and messages received from supporters in Ohio and across the country.

The newborn has been named Savithri. The name, also spelled Savitri, has roots in Sanskrit and Hindu tradition. In Hindu mythology, Savithri is a respected figure known for intelligence, devotion, and moral resolve.

Soon after the announcement, the focus shifted from the birth itself to avoidable public reactions surrounding the child’s name. Several social media users criticized the choice, arguing that the name was not “American enough”.  “I can’t even pronounce that name,” one user wrote. “Glad they were born but English/Americanized names please,” said another.

The online response led to a broader debate about identity, assimilation, and cultural expression among immigrant and second-generation families in the United States.
