Indian Consulate and Indiaspora host roadshow on trade in New Zealand

The event highlighted strong optimism for a landmark India–New Zealand trade agreement.

The Consulate General of India in Auckland, in collaboration with Indiaspora, hosted the annual New Zealand Roadshow, titled, 'Unleashing Trailblazing Paths to Trade, Talent and Trust', on Nov. 17.

Held at the Te Mahurehure Cultural Marae, the program opened with a traditional Māori cultural welcome, followed by an Indian spiritual invocation.

The opening remarks were given by Indiaspora Ambassador in New Zealand, Mallika Janakiraman and the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Consul General of India. He called for a deeper collaboration in trade, tourism, and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The event also featured a panel discussion moderated by former minister and National Party Leader Simon Bridges, who provided thought leadership to the day's discussions.

The panel consisted of Earl Rattray, Company Director and Senior Adviser in Agriculture, agri-tech and rural infrastructure; Bindi Shah, Partner at Deloitte; Geoff Allott, Former NZ Cricketer and Executive Director, Quality NZ; and Mahesh Muralidhar, CEO of Phase One, who also ran for Parliament in 2023.

The event highlighted strong optimism for a landmark India–New Zealand trade agreement, seen as a game-changer for New Zealand businesses in India.

In the “Politics with Purpose” session, MPs Rima Nakhle, Priyanca Radhakrishnan, and Nancy Lu shared insights on the growing India–New Zealand relationship and the vital role of diaspora leadership.

The roadshow marked a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties and advancing Indiaspora’s global mission, with the organization represented by CEO-India & Senior VP Sreekumar Nair and Senior Director-Community Development Nisha Nambiar.
