The Consul General of India in Houston, D.C. Manjunath, met Indian students and faculty at Louisiana State University on Nov. 22 in an interaction to emphasize the consulate’s support role for students across the southern United States.
The visit, later detailed in a LinkedIn post, centered on concerns, guidance channels, and the importance of remaining connected to consular services.
In his message, Manjunath described the Consulate General of India in Houston as “their home away from home” and encouraged students to “stay connected and reach out for any assistance, guidance, or engagement.”
The outreach took place as the population of Indian students in the U.S. continues to grow, forming the country’s largest international student cohort.
Manjunath also held discussions with senior leadership from LSU’s College of Engineering, where both sides explored potential collaborations in research and academic support. The visit coincided with a recent MoU between LSU Health Sciences Center and the Indian Institute of Technology Chennai, focused on biomedical research, dentistry, and medicine.
The Consul General shared photos and updates from the engagement, tagging LSU College of Engineering and several individuals. Chevron Designated Professor at LSU, Mayank Tyagi, wrote, “Thanks for your LSU visit... Indian students were highly appreciative of your thoughtful and candid responses in the discussion.”
Manjunath’s outreach forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance people-to-people engagement and address challenges related to student mobility, including visa processes and cultural adaptation.
With nearly 300,000 Indian students currently studying in the United States, the Houston consulate—which covers eight southern states—plans further outreach across the region.
