Illinois proclaims June 25 as Indian-American Veterans Appreciation Day

It recognizes the military service and contributions of Indian-Americans in the US.

In an official proclamation, llinois Governor JB Pritzker declared Jun. 25, 2026, as Indian-American Veterans Appreciation Day across the state. The proclamation honors the contributions of Indian-American members of the U.S. Armed Forces and the work of the Indo-American Veterans Organization (IAVO.us).

“Indian-Americans have made tremendous contributions to the advancement of American society; and Illinois proudly acknowledges and recognizes the contributions of our Indian-American members in our great Armed Forces,” the proclamation reads.

Governor Pritzker noted the efforts of the Indo-American Veterans Organization, a non-profit founded on Nov.11, 2021—Veterans Day—dedicated to honoring Indian-American veterans.

“The IAVO.us mission statement is dedicated to honoring Indian-American veterans who have proudly served and sacrificed in the United States Armed Forces,” the proclamation stated.

The official declaration was signed by Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias and bears the Great Seal of the State of Illinois.

Following the announcement, the Commissioner of the Veterans Memorial and founder, chairman & president of IAVO.us, a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran — shared a message with the community, "the Governor's Proclamation serves as an important reminder that the contributions of Indian-Americans extend beyond every sector of American life and include honorable service in defense of our nation."

"As we celebrate this recognition, we invite the public to join us in our mission to ensure that the stories, sacrifices, and achievements of Indian-American veterans are preserved and shared with future generations."
