The Indian American Impact has endorsed six Indian American candidates running for offices ranging from county courts to state legislatures ahead of the upcoming election cycle.

The organization works to elevate the political voice of Indian and South Asian Americans while advocating for a government that reflects community values.

Among those endorsed is Maryland State Senate candidate Amar Mukunda, an entrepreneur, educator, engineer, and Army veteran. His campaign focuses on supporting local businesses, lowering child care and elder care costs, preventing gun violence, and advancing progressive policies.

In a statement, Indian American Impact said Mukunda is “fighting to make the American dream affordable, strengthen our schools, and protect our democracy.”

The group also endorsed Judge Manpreet “Monica” Singh in her reelection bid in Harris County, Texas, calling her a “trailblazing jurist and community leader.”

Singh, who made history as Texas’ first Sikh judge when elected to the Harris County Civil Court in 2022, has more than two decades of legal experience.

Raaheela Ahmed, a candidate for the Maryland State Senate, also received the organization’s backing. A former member of the Prince George’s County Board of Education, she has focused on education equity and civic engagement.

Neal Walia, running for the Colorado House of Representatives, was endorsed as well. A community leader and policy professional, Walia has worked on issues including health care access and immigrant support through roles at the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians and the Asian Pacific Development Center.

The organization also backed California Assemblymember Darshana Patel in her reelection bid. A research scientist and school board president, Patel has emphasized education and public service in her work.

Nikhil Goyal, a candidate for the Vermont State Senate, also secured endorsement. A former policy adviser to Sen. Bernie Sanders and an academic at the University of Vermont, Goyal has worked on federal policy and juvenile justice issues.

Announcing his endorsement, the organization said Goyal brings “real expertise, integrity, and progressive values” to the race.
