A fundraising campaign video by the Hindu American Foundation received a 2026 DeRose-Hinkhouse Award of Excellence from the Religion Communicators Council, a U.S.-based professional association of religious communicators.

The award, presented on April 16, is part of an annual program recognizing excellence in communications and public relations work by faith-based organizations.

Titled ‘Back to the [Hindu] Future’, the campaign video follows a high school student, Krishna, who discovers inaccuracies about Hindu traditions in his textbooks. Along with his teacher, Miss Clara, he turns to a scientist friend, Doc, for clarification, leading to a narrative centered on correcting misconceptions and improving educational understanding.

The video was produced by the HAF marketing team, led by Sheetal Shah and Tejus Shah, along with executive director of HAF Suhag Shukla and Syama Allard.

It features actors Fred Stella, Amy McFadden, and Keshav Desaraju, and was filmed and edited by Todd Lewis.

Commenting on the award, Tejus Shah, senior director of marketing and creative strategy at HAF, said, “Projects like this are truly a team effort. Speaking on behalf of everyone who worked on this campaign, we’re thrilled that the Religion Communicators Council has recognized the creativity and quality of this fundraising campaign, which has succeeded in both that primary goal, but also in raising awareness about the critical need for accurate, nuanced, and comprehensive educational materials in America’s schools.”

The recognition comes amid broader outreach efforts by HAF, which also saw its “All About Hinduism” podcast series receive the same award this year.

The 23-part series focuses on explaining core tenets of Hinduism and addressing frequently asked questions about the religion.

HAF, a U.S.-based nonprofit founded in 2003, focuses on advocacy, education, and public awareness related to Hindu traditions and issues affecting Hindu Americans.
