Columbia to host Indian economy summit
The summit will examine India’s path to developed status by 2047 with policymakers, scholars and industry experts.

The 'Columbia Indian Economy Summit 2026' will be held April 11 at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, bringing together policymakers, scholars and industry experts to discuss India’s path toward becoming a developed country by 2047.
Organized by the Raj Center on Indian Economic Policies, the one-day conference will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the 15th floor of the International Affairs Building at 420 W. 118th St.
The summit will focus on India’s goal of reaching developed-country status by the centenary of its independence in 2047. Participants will examine economic reforms, state-level policy dynamics, technological change and global challenges shaping India’s development trajectory.

The event will open with registration and breakfast at 9:30 a.m., followed by opening remarks from Columbia University economist Arvind Panagariya at 9:55 a.m.
The keynote session, scheduled for 10 a.m., will feature Indermit Gill of the World Bank Group in conversation with Panagariya. The discussion is titled “Will India Reach High-Income Before It Reaches the 100th Anniversary of Independence?”
The conference will be held in person and requires advance registration. Organizers said seating will be limited because of security measures.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the event, with a reception planned after the sessions conclude.
