Chicago Consulate establishes ‘India Corner’ at Illinois Tech

Initiative expands India-focused academic outreach in the US Midwest.

The Consulate General of India in Chicago inaugurated an “India Corner” at the Illinois Institute of Technology as part of its initiative to establish similar spaces across universities in the U.S. Midwest.

The initiative is aimed at promoting greater understanding of India’s history, society and global contributions within American academic institutions.

According to the Consulate, a collection of books covering India’s culture, history, economy, science, technology and politics was donated to the institute’s library. The books were formally presented by the Consul General to the president of Illinois Institute of Technology.

During the visit, the Consul General met with faculty members and Indian students at the university to discuss avenues for further engagement, including academic cooperation and cultural exchange.

Founded in 1890, Illinois Institute of Technology enrolls more than 8,000 students at its Chicago campus. The university is known for its emphasis on research, innovation and industry partnerships.

The Chicago metropolitan area is home to one of the largest Indian American communities in the United States, providing broader context to such cultural and educational initiatives.
