Emergency physician and former Arizona state legislator Dr. Amish Shah, who won the Democratic primary in Arizona's 1st Congressional District, attributes his success to a strong grassroots movement.

“Our primary victory was a grassroots win where Arizona voters made their voices heard,” Dr. Shah said in a post-election statement. “Now, it's my job to earn the support of every voter in this district, including Democrats who voted for another candidate, independents frustrated with our political system, and Republicans disappointed with the state of the country.”
Dr. Shah was born in Chicago and earned a BA degree in economics from Northwestern University in 1997, an MD from Northwestern University in 2001, and an MPH from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2003. His career experience includes working as an attending physician with Mayo Clinic, Dignity Health, and IASIS Healthcare; the chief medical officer of Urgent Consult; and an airway management physician with the New York Jets.

“The status quo in Washington, D.C., is not working for Arizonans. From rising costs to a reckless war in Iran to the largest cuts to our nation's health care system in American history, corrupt and self-interested politicians in Congress are making life harder for people, not easier. We need leaders in Congress who are focused on the needs of the people they represent instead of picking partisan fights and lining their own pockets. I've spent my career serving the people of this district in both the ER and the State House, and I look forward to winning in November and serving them in Congress,” Dr. Shah said in his statement.
As a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives, Dr. Shah worked with both parties to get things done for Arizonans, “passing more bills into law than any Arizona Democrat in the last decade.” In his campaign for U.S. Congress, he highlighted that he is running to lower costs for families, improve health care, and take on political corruption by banning members of Congress from trading stocks.
