A havan and yagnya were organized at a Hindu temple in New England on Sept. 21 to mark the 75th birthday of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event also launched a global initiative to conduct 75 havans and gather 75 lakh pledges promoting mental, spiritual, and physical health.

The temple, where Modi visited in the 1990s during his days as a pracharak, hosted the ceremony. Organizers said prayers were offered for his “long life, radiant health, enlightened wisdom, and indomitable strength".

Senior community leaders including Pramit Maakoday, Abhaya Asthana, Dr. Lakshmi Thalanki, and Sanjeev Tripathi led the rituals, which began with the Bhagwan Ganesha and Ayush Homam. They pledged to conduct havans across North America and abroad, with the 75th ceremony envisioned at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.

Abhaya Asthana, president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad America’s advisory board, described Modi’s “disciplined and selfless life” as an inspiration. “His leadership will continue to illuminate the path for Bharat as a developed nation and a moral guide to humanity,” he said.

Modi’s niece, Sonal Modi, joined the program virtually. She thanked the organizers and said the event reflected the “deep love, respect, and prayers of the diaspora” for the Prime Minister on his milestone birthday.

Endorsements also came from Padma Shri awardee Dr. Sudhir Parikh, Hindu American Foundation co-founder Dr. Romesh Japra, and Global Indians for Bharat Vikas leaders Kanchan Banerjee and Gaurang Vaishnav. They said Modi “embodies the qualities of a visionary statesman, courageous reformer, and compassionate leader whose influence transcends borders".

Maakoday, president of the Global Citizens Forum, said the gathering was more than a ritual. “It reflects the wishes of a global community of citizens and seekers everywhere for Prime Minister Modi ji’s enduring vitality, resolute courage, enlightened wisdom, and noble leadership,” he said.

The ceremony concluded with prasadam served to participants. Organizers noted that the initiative is intended to unite the diaspora under the guiding principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family.
