Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, a Democrat from Illinois, and Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania have introduced a bipartisan resolution in the House of Representatives recognizing the religious and historical significance of Diwali, the festival celebrated by millions across the United States and around the world.

“Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil,” Krishnamoorthi said in a statement. “For the millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains here in the U.S. celebrating with friends, family, and loved ones, it’s my hope that my bipartisan resolution honouring the cultural, religious, and historical significance of the Festival of Lights brings our communities together and inspires us to see the light in the world and overcome the challenges we face.”
