The American political leadership has come alive in sharing the Diwali message and ringing in the festive spirit, hand-in-hand with the Hindu-American community. Bipartisan wishes came in from senior leaders including California Governor, Gavin Newsom, who described Diwali as the "spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

Newsom, who on Oct. 6 had declared Diwali as a state holiday, was not the only one to share the festival's message. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also issued a statement sharing his "warm wishes to the many communities in the U.S. and around the world who are celebrating the Diwali festival of lights."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also shared the Diwali cheer along with his wife and also celebrated the festival with the Indian community in Texas.

The President of the United States, Donald J Trump, also shared his Diwali greeting to the community. He said, "To every American celebrating Diwali, may this observance bring abiding serenity, prosperity, hope, and peace."

He added, "As millions of citizens light diyas and lanterns, we rejoice in the eternal truth that good will always triumph over evil."

Indian American lawmakers also spread the Diwali cheer. Congressmembers Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pramila Jayapa, Ro Khanna and Shri Thanedar expressed their joy and shared their wishes with the community.

Rep. Jayapal noted, "This day is a reminder that light triumphs over darkness and that freedom and righteousness will always prevail."

Rep. Thanedar also shared a similar message and said, "Happy Diwali! Today, we celebrate the triumph of good over evil, love over hate, and a renewal of our spirit."

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer also shared his wishes for the festive season and said, "Shubh Diwali to everyone celebrating the Festival of Lights and a happy Bandi Chorr Divas and Tihar."

He added, "I hope this holiday season brings you all peace and prosperity."
