The Oval Office glowed with the flicker of a brass diya on Oct. 21 evening as U.S. President Donald Trump joined Indian American leaders and executives to mark Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
Surrounded by marigolds, rose petals, and portraits of past presidents, Trump struck a familiar mix of celebration and politics — praising the “wonderful culture and people of India,” announcing significant corporate investments, and recalling his conversation earlier in the day with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
