Trump extends condolences to Taranjit Singh Sandhu on brother’s passing
The veteran diplomat, who is formerly the Ambassador of India to the US, shared the letter on his X handle.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump extended his condolences to India’s former Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, on the passing of his brother, Jasjit Singh Samundri.
In a letter dated October 17, 2025, written on White House stationery, Trump expressed his sorrow at the news of Samundri’s death, describing him as a “respected Indian public servant” remembered for his “public service, deep faith, and immense love of family".
“I pray that the memories you and your brother shared provide enduring comfort and peace. May God bless you and your family,” Trump wrote.
He also recalled warmly receiving Ambassador Sandhu in the Oval Office on February 6, 2020, and acknowledged his efforts in ensuring the success of Trump’s state visit to India later that month.
Ambassador Sandhu responded to Trump’s gesture with gratitude, expressing appreciation for the former president’s kind words and remembrance. Sandhu, who served as India’s envoy to the U.S. from 2020 to 2024, has been widely respected for strengthening India–U.S. strategic relations during his tenure.
