Michigan Republicans on March 19 rallied behind Vice President J.D. Vance at a high-energy event, as Michigan GOP co-chair Sunny Reddy positioned the state as a decisive force in shaping America’s political future.
Opening the event, Reddy emphasized unity, economic opportunity, and grassroots momentum, casting Michigan as central to the GOP’s path forward.

“We are proud to welcome our Vice President of the United States, J.D. Vance, to the great state of Michigan,” he said, adding that the party is focused on “winning, serving and delivering results.”

Michigan is the state that will decide the future of America,” he said, citing concerns raised by residents across Detroit, Grand Rapids, and the Upper Peninsula, including “safer communities, better schools, lower cost, leaders who actually listen.”
He outlined what he described as the party’s guiding principles: “Opportunity over dependency. Freedom over control. And results over rhetoric.”

He described Vance’s visit as a signal of the state’s importance. “When leaders like Vice President J.D. Vance come to Michigan, it sends a clear message—Michigan matters, Michigan families matter, and Michigan’s future matters,” he said.
Describing Vance as an advocate for working Americans, Reddy said the Vice President has been “a voice for hard-working Americans — people who feel forgotten, people who feel ignored, and people who are ready for a change.”
Reflecting on his background, Reddy described himself as a first-generation American who arrived in Detroit more than three decades ago. “I came to this country 35 years ago, landed in Detroit with lots of dreams — just forgot to bring my winter clothes,” he said.
Reddy currently serves on the Board of Governors of Wayne State University, a position he was elected to in 2024 for an eight-year term beginning in 2025.
“This country gave me everything, and that’s why I am committed to giving back and making sure the next generation has even greater opportunities,” he said.
Reddy emphasized outreach to the younger generation to take on leadership roles within the party. “The Republican Party is not just a party of the past. It’s a party of the future. We welcome you. We need your ideas. We need your energy, and most importantly, we want you to lead,” he said.
Reddy concluded with a call for unity and action. “Let’s stay united. Let’s stay focused. And let’s get to work, because the future of Michigan and the future of America depends on what we do next,” he said.
Reddy, an entrepreneur and community leader, was unanimously elected co-chair of the Michigan Republican Party in December 2025, becoming one of the first Indian Americans to hold a senior leadership role in the state party.
The event comes as Michigan is expected to play a key role in upcoming elections, with all 13 U.S. House seats up for contest in November 2026 alongside other statewide races.
